How the Story Goes (1045)
I wonder if sometimes we get too caught up on the importance of our own individual belief, and forget the shocking truth that God loves and longs for all of creation – regardless of our belief or unbelief? I wonder if we’re guilty of using Jesus’s words, not to communicate God’s all-inclusive compassion and mercy, but to threaten and exclude others with God’s judgment. Do we allow our interpretation to distort the meaning of “belief,” reducing its nuance and complexity to nothing more than an intellectual exercise? What does it mean, after all, to say, “I believe in Jesus?” And why is “belief,” of all things, so important to God?
