Latino Ministries
WORSHIP
Worship in Spanish takes place at 10:45 during the school year and at 10 am during the summer. We have children’s time during every worship service to strengthen the faith of the next generation. We celebrate Holy Communion at all masses and all believers are welcome at the Lord’s Table. The sacrament of Holy Baptism is free to all members.
PASTORAL CARE
We know that life is filled with moments of joy and sadness. We accompany members and non-members alike. We pray with people at the beginning and end of life and all of the moments in between. We visit people in the hospital, hospice, and in jail to strengthen their spirits.
Beyond spiritual needs, our ministry leaders will assist Spanish-speakers in looking for housing, finding employment, applying for loans, registering children for school and other community activities and other needs. We have a contact with a high quality and honest immigration lawyer.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
We worship simultaneously with the English service. This allows the children to attend the Christian education hour with the English speaking children. Translators are available for Sunday school classes as needed. We also offer adult classes periodically. Our Spanish-speaking students participate in confirmation class on Thursday evenings during the school year. Our confirmation class combines teaching the Bible with living our faith in our community.
FELLOWSHIP / CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS
We believe that building a community of believers is an important part of God’s mission. We frequently gather together for lunches and dinners. Las Posadas is a vibrant celebration during Advent and las alfombras anchor our Holy Week worship services. We also provide a celebration space for birthday parties, weddings, quinceaneras for our members.
ENGLISH CLASSES
Ascension offers English classes for free for the entire family, including child care. Classes are Saturday morning and they are in small, unintimidating groups. Topics include English, but also workshops on how to thrive in the US (navigating the banking system, insurance systems, job applications, etc.)
MEMBERSHIP
Every year we offer a membership class, but worshipers are informally considered members after several months of regular worship.
