Small Groups

Small groups at Ascension provide an opportunity for learning, relationship building, discussion and tending. A variety of small groups meet on different days of the week and on a monthly or semi-monthly schedule. Small groups may discuss books of the Bible, or commit to a study of a book, or dive into a 6-week study of a specific topic. If you would like to find out which small groups are available and might fit your schedule, please contact the church office. Below are a few of our small groups.

AMEN

Our men’s ministry meets to encourage and strengthen the men of the congregation through Bible Studies, discussions, service events and fun fellowship. Different Bible studies are offered each week and at different times during the year along with events and activities in the summer. For more information, please contact the church office.

No Regrets Men’s Conference: Ascension’s AMEN Ministry is excited to host the streamed event here at Ascension annually. Watch for more information about next year.

Young at Heart (55+)

The Young at Heart group offers fellowship, enrichment and fun events for people 55 and older. The monthly potluck is held at noon on the 3rd Wednesday of the month followed by a speaker, music, or games. For more questions, please see Arlene Davis or Celeste Defenbaugh or contact the church office.

TGIT

The TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) small group for women meets in the Hearth Room at Ascension at 9:30 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays of the month. We are organized for Bible study, mission outreach and fellowship. Contact Jan Zastrow for additional information.

Knit Wits

The Ascension Lutheran Knit Wits is an Ascension-affiliated community group that enjoys knitting, crocheting, and looming, and wants to help others. Our primary purpose is to foster fellowship and friendship among our members. Our mission is to help keep the less-fortunate warm, one stitch at a time. We make hats, baby items, lapghans, youth afghans, and other items as needed. At our meetings, we knit, crochet, loom, talk, laugh, eat, and pray together. All women are welcome: Ascension members and non-members, experts and novices, all ages. Please contact the church office for more information, 262-547-8518. Most of our meetings are at Ascension Lutheran Church, 1415 Dopp St., Waukesha, WI, or at Waukesha restaurants.

  • Monthly Knit Fests are usually on the third Saturday of the month, from 12:30 to 3 p.m. We work on charity projects. We also hold Lunch & Knit meetings and other daytime events scattered throughout the month. You don’t have to attend every meeting.
  • For our charity projects, you can use our donated yarn, patterns, needles, hooks, and Nifty Knitter looms

We make:

  • Hats for various charities including Waukesha schools, four Latino congregations in the area, the Hope Center; and the Christmas Clearing Council.
  • Youth afghans for Chosen, Inc. of Wisconsin, a non-profit fostering and adoption support ministry dedicated to fostering forever families.
  • Lap blankets for the VA hospital in West Allis and other facilities as requested.
  • Baby items including booties, blankets, hats and sweaters for the Women’s Care Center in Milwaukee and Hephatha Church’s Strong Baby Sanctuary in Milwaukee.
  • Angel Blankets – small, white blankets to comfort Ascension families who suffer the death of an infant.
