BLAST
BLAST stands for Believing, Learning, and Sharing Together. It is the name we created for our ministry with and for children ages 3 years old to 5th grade. We meet in large group and small group formats. Age groups are divided most Sundays. We offer music ministry with each age group on a twice a month basis. Each year the children gather in November and December to prepare to share the Christmas story in worship on a Sunday leading to Christmas. Sheri Greger and Karen Simington coordinate the BLAST program.
Stepping Stones
Stepping stones provide an opportunity to mark a milestone in the life of a child. At Ascension, we offer the following stepping stones:
3-Year-Old Stepping Stone: An introduction for parents and children to BLAST children’s ministry with songs, breakfast, and story time.
Kindergarten Stepping Stone: A time of building with Legos, playdough, and painting to share in the joy of children receiving their first story Bible.
3rd Grade Stepping Stone: A time of learning and breakfast as children are gifted with their first complete Bible.
4th Grade Stepping Stone: A time of learning and exploring the story of the Last Supper and gift of Holy Communion. We bake bread, taste the foods of Passover, and paint individual chalices and patens.
9th Grade Stepping Stone: A celebration of the completion of a student’s journey through JOLT that offers the creation of their Faith Statement shared in worship with prayer and the laying on of hands.
12th Grade Stepping Stone: A celebration of graduation where each graduating senior is invited to kneel and prayed over and sent with a towel into the world as a reminder that we are servants, one to another. We model the teaching of Jesus where he washed the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper.
We’d love to hear from you and answer any additional questions you have.
