As we celebrate the beginning of a new year, I find myself reflecting on the end of one. This January marks the conclusion of my time serving on the Ascension Church Council. Over the past three years, it has been an honor to serve alongside some truly amazing people and to get to know them as we worked together to help lead this church.
During my time on council, I was grateful to be part of meaningful work, including the creation of our new 2035 Vision Plan, welcoming many new people who discovered Ascension, and the generous sharing of resources that has strengthened our ability to serve our community and beyond.
When Pastor Chris first asked me to serve on council, I was admittedly apprehensive and had plenty of questions: How much time would this take? Would my family be okay with another evening away from home? How does a church budget actually come together? And what does a second vice president really do? Despite those initial reservations, I have truly enjoyed my time on council and am excited to see what lies ahead for our new council members and for the broader church community.
While I am stepping away from this particular role in my Ascension story, I will still be around—joining you for worship, rehearsals, CRASH, and planning meetings throughout the week. One chapter is ending, but exciting things are on the horizon as we look forward to a new year together.
May God bless this place, the ministries within and beyond our walls, and each of you. Here’s to an amazing 2026!
Scott Greger
Council President
